What White

Much ado is made annually about the color of the year as chosen by Pantone, a company world-renowned for color expertise. This year it broke from tradition and went with a pair of shades: a nursery-ready pink and blue—Rose Quartz and Serenity, respectively— although any baby coming home to these soothing hues would be the chicest on the block. However, when it comes to home design, specifically, we turn to some of our other favorite authorities on color: paint manufacturers. For 2016, both Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore announced what amounts to a non-color as the top trend. These shades—Sherwin-Williams Alabaster and Benjamin Moore Simply White—are sophisticated basics that can carry a room or make any color, pale or intense, pop. Here we explore the variety of ways white can be right.
