A Home for all Hobbies

A BIKE RIDE FOR ONE PARKER RESIDENT resulted in a spectacular White Deer Valley home. After wandering o her usual bike route she noticed beautiful, sloped and rocky ranch-land in Jefferson County. “She convinced her husband to move from Parker and build the retreat for their family,” says Interior Designer, Sage Case. “It was a joy to work with the homeowner on this project as it was clearly a labor of love for her.”

Architect Michael Folwell, of Folwell Studios, worked with Case to help design this 5,000-square-foot single-family home. “We included an industrial washer and dryer for hunting blankets and gear since you can’t send blankets from hunting to the dry cleaners,” says Case. “On the flip side, we also provided a special laundry sink designed for hand-washing delicates.” Other personal elements included the green space for the homeowners’
daughter, a lap pool and other organic touches.

The home’s exterior highlights magnificent reclaimed barn posts and beams from mills throughout the Midwest. The home also includes a guest apartment above the garage. Personal space and multiple living areas were critical in the design—a wine cellar, home gym and other bonuses are featured in the lower level. Folwell later added a 1,400-squarefoot barn to accommodate horses and a boat. These homeowners certainly paid homage to a Colorado lifestyle in the design and build of their family quarters.

The landscape along Colorado foothills can be rough and tumble. The addition of the pool, outdoor spa and putting green eliminate the need for grass and make use of the
natural slope of the home site.
“The drapery was an essential element of the master bedroom. The homeowner wanted to interact with the home through the ritual of opening and closing the
drapes each dawn and dusk,” Case says.

A lap pool with no guard rail provides a relaxing atmosphere with unobstructed views.

The outdoor seating area is secluded but offers easy access to both the kitchen and master bedroom.
