IDEAS | Wall Works – By Emily Baker
Spruce up a wall in your home with simple materials that pack a design punch. Interior Designer Andrea Schumacher, of O Interior Design, offers tips for walls that will wow.
One of Schumacher’s favorite looks right now is an art wall. If you have a blank wall in any room in your house and no idea what to do with it, try a collage of various works of art. Schumacher says this look, “feels clean and organized.” Paired with simplistic furniture, the art wall will draw most of the attention. In addition, do not limit yourself to one genre. “We love the mix of old and new,” Schumacher says, praising the combination of simple antique furniture and modern art.
An alternative to collecting paintings: bookshelves. This wall treatment is beautiful and functional. “A well-designed bookshelf can be useful and efficient, as well as eye-catching in any space, Schumacher says. For a more refined look, consider covering your books in a light parchment paper for a soft, consistent palette. Feel free to stack books horizontally as well as vertically.
Finally, using tile in a room can completely change the look of a wall. A single tile, in itself, can be a beautiful work of art, but tile arrangements create drama. Schumacher’s favorite tile trend is faux animal skin tile and textured fabric-like surfaces. Use these exciting options floor-to-ceiling or as an accent.
IDEAS | Color Change – By Emily Baker
The simplest and most cost effective way to spice up your walls: fresh paint! Choose a bold accent color for one wall or repaint the entire room. “One great way to bring paint and color into a space is to paint the ceiling,” Schumacher says. This alternative can bring modern taste to previously bland rooms. To find your perfect color, check out your nearest Guiry’s for an incredible secection of color trends. guirys.com
